Review of Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic – Drive Me Crazy EP

The underground progressive community eagarly awaits for each upcoming Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic production and with good reason, each package this trio releases is always full of the most in demand remixers and the coolest up and comers as well.

The original mix is 11 minutes of swirling, atmospheric bliss. Laced with great vocal elements and that cool deep progressive feel this is certainly one of the best productions yet from Michael, Levan and Stiven Rivic. The track is just so smooth and it flows so well that you feel like you could listen to it on repeat for an hour and not get bored at all. Amazing!

The remixes provided here are quite varied which is really nice. Much deeper interpretations from Chloe Harris, Blue Room Project and Deep Fog will make sure the release finds its way into not just just a typical progressive lovers set but lots of DJs with varied tastes. The Blue Room Project mix has been receiving play from Derek Howell who opened his recent MasterLux show set with it and recent Chloe Harris productions have been receiving support from Sasha and Hernan Cattaneo so expect more of the same here. The big mixes on the package are provided by: Domased Electronica, Loquai and Hypnotic Duo. Domased Electronica keeps the vibe deep on his interpretation and the overall atmospheric feel is maintained as well but the beats are a tad tougher than the original which may suit a primetime dancefloor abit better but it’s a toss up really because both are great tracks. Loquai provides his trademark thick and groove laden basslines for a really cool mix that does not disappoint and Hypnotic Duo keep their rework aimed squarely at the dancefloor with a progressive groove to die for. Another fine original production for Michael, Levan and Stiven Rivic with a great set of remixes but ultimately the original is the real gem on this package for us!

Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic – Drive Me Crazy E.P.

The label bosses are back with their own E.P. with a remix package to die for!

Original Mix
The guys’ original kicks off our mammoth E.P. in style. After a dark, deep opening few minutes, we are thrust into a swell of big beats and some lush, filmic harmonies. The break is a lovely, dreamy couple of minutes, with a deep female vocal uttering the words “you drive me crazy” which sounds extremely good!

Domased Electronica Remix
Since the start of Mistique’s existence, there hasn’t been one Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic track that hasn’t been remixed by Domased Electronica, and this E.P. is no exception. Delivering his trademark deep style, Ladislav Zajic turns this into an epic tune. The elements of the original are all present, as you would expect, but he has put more emphasis on the beat and the bass which truly make this track a stomper.

Deep Fog Remix
An exclusive artist to Mistiquemusic, Deep Fog, from Poland delivers a more subtle, laid back approach. He must have had one eye on the summer months when remixing this because he seems to have captured the summer mood perfectly here. Lovely guitar played melodies.

Loquai Remix
Russian producer Loquai (Konstantin Alt) is back on remix duties once again and he delivers a tremendous transformation of the original. Awesome work with the harmonies as well as a delightful twist on the melody, this would work well in any sunset party over the summer

Hypnotic Duo Remix
The boys from Lithuania are back! Dziastinas and Marius turn in a real groover here. A deep punchy bassline rumbles along throughout the track, and the main melodic riff is out of this world! The breakdown is superb, a true spine tingling moment!

Chloe Harris Remix
Chloe Harris’s star is rising. And fast. Turning in a remix for Namatjira earlier this year, she is back on Mistique with another dark, groovy remix! Chloe’s remix this time round has her trademark pounding sound which takes us as far away from the original than you could possibly imagine. Would work well at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of a set, because of the uniqueness of the track.

Blue Room Project Remix
New York duo Shane Ehlers and Jeff Belfi are last up on remix duties here. They provide us with probably the most simplest of remixes you’ve ever heard! A simpe kick drum alone with some haunting harmonies make this remix a very listenable experience without being too over the top.

Tracks on this release:

01. Drive Me Crazy (Original Mix)
02. Drive Me Crazy (Domased Electronica Remix)
03. Drive Me Crazy (Deep Fog Remix)
04. Drive Me Crazy (LoQuai Remix)
05. Drive Me Crazy (Hypnotic Duo Remix)
06. Drive Me Crazy (Chloe Harris Remix)
07. Drive Me Crazy (Blue Room Project Remix)

Domased Electronica remixed Kay-D – My Dreams

Kay-D – My Dreams (incl. Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic, Domased Electronica, Dark Soul Project, Robert K) (Mistiquemusic) [MIST062]
Release Date: July 1st, 2010

Progressive/Progressive

Original Mix
Mistique’s favourite Hungarian adds to his huge list of tracks with the label with this deep, atmospheric Original. In true Kay-D fashion, he combines a real dark bassline with very heavenly melodies and a familiar female vocal cut where the lyrics are quite indecipherable.

Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic Remix
Label head honchos are on remix duties again, and here they have delivered a stomping take on the original. All the elements of the original are present in this remix, but M&L and SR have taken us that little bit further down the rabbit hole with this remix.

Domased Electronica Remix
When I first heard this remix, I had to double check whether it was Domased Electronica working this one. Has a bit of a different flavour to his previous remixes this year, he usually has a very distinctive style but this seems to be a completely new direction for DE and he makes it sound so very, very good!

Dark Soul Project Remix
Argentinian producer Dark Soul Project turns in an 11 minute journey here. A real driving bassline and the use of Kay-D’s original turn this remix into quite an uplifting one but yet still managing to keep it very, very deep.

Robert K Remix
Robert K (or to give him his real name, Robert Árpád Kiss) is a producer/DJ from Romania and here he provides the final remix for the package. Quite a crisp sounding beat with some extra melodies and a driving bassline, make this one an early set thumper.

Tracks on this release:

02. My Dreams (Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic remix)
03. My Dreams (Domased Electronica remix)

Review of Kay-D – My Dreams EP

Kay- D also known as Krisztian Kajdi, was born in July of 1978, in Ajka, Hungary.

His interest to music started in 1986 when he went to the conservatorie for 3 years and played trumpet. In the early ’90s he started to be interested in electronic music and at that time his favourite styles were german rave, acid-house and hardcore-techno, and later trance. At the age of 16 Krisztian started to compose music. After a break in producing to attend school in environmental engineering Krisztian got back into producing in 2007, it was a turning point in Kay-D’s career, at that time he got to know the newest music composing programmes and had his first productions signed to CLS Records. His music was inspired by many styles like progressive house, breaks, tech-house, tribal, deep house and electro.

With My Dreams Kay-D has crafted a real deep progressive trance gem. Lots of sparkling melodies and great female vocal snips. It’s the tough galloping beats that really give this a deep yet still tough feel on the low end. The atmospherics in the breakdown are absolutely out of this world and when the bassline drops back in it’s pretty devastating. Label bosses Michael, Levan and Stiven Rivic have really focused their mix on a lot of swirling atmospheric elements and have created a hypnotic deep trance anthem. So many sublime layers and textures to get lost in on their mix, it’s really incredible and a great journey into sound! Domased Electronica has added some additional groove to the low end and kept the amazing atmospherics and melodies for an overall epic feel. Dark Soul Project provides a very nice complement to the package. His mix starts off in typical DSP fashion with a dark and grundgy vibe but as the melodies fade in the mix takes a more melancholic almost ominous feel. It’s a very interesting and unique remix from DSP and is a testament to him as a producer. Lastly Robert K comes up with a pretty straight forward progressive trance mix with nice energy and a good pumping clubby vibe. Another Solid package from Mistique.

Domased Electronica remixed Eryo – Wind City

MIST058Eryo – Wind City (inc. Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic, Domased Electronica, Atrium Sun) (Mistiquemusic) [MIST058]

Release date: June 15th, 2010
Progressive/Progressive

Original Mix:
Eryo is back on Mistique with his very own E.P. The original of Wind City is a swell of warm, atmospheric textures and a very heavenly melody. During the break we are hit with a nice piano lead with a breakbeat rhythm, we are then ascended back into the atmosphere with everything all coming together in one beautiful moment. Epic!

Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic Remix:
These guys are known for their very deep, melodic productions, and this is no exception. Just as dreamy as Eryo’s original, M&L and SR spice things up by adding extra emphasis on the deep, driving bassline and rhythm.

Domased Electronica Remix:
Ladislav Zajic needs no introduction to the progressive scene. With numerous massive tracks and remixes on the Mistique label, he is back here with a huge remix. His trademark deep bass driven sound is present once again and he has used Eryo’s original atmospheric textures to create a warm, spine tingling finished product.

Atrium Sun Cold Remix:
Atrium Sun never seems to disappoint. One of those producers that seems to get stronger with each and every outing. Here is no exception. A full on driving bassline and bouncy rhythm, this is a remix that never gives up. After quite a quick atmospheric breakdown, we are thrust straight back into the mayhem once a gain with a big breakdown. An impressive remix from an ever improving producer!

Review of Eryo – Wind City EP

Providing elegant, atmospheric and rhythmic music is what the Eryo project is all about. It was created in 2006 by belarussian dj and producer Konstantin Vorontsov.

Born in 1985 in the capital of Belarus, he was interesded in different music since childhood, but listening to electronic music has broght him the most of the pleasure. Music by Markus Schulz, Elevation, Hernan Cattaneo, Dave Seaman, and other progressive djs has influenced him a lot. Along with the great impact made by such names as Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Bjork and Akira Yamaoka. Eryo was always in love with mysterious things. His mixes are full of atmosphere and complex moods and feelings, mostly lyrical and romantic though. In 2008 Eryo started making his own tracks and remixes in the Cubase sequencer. His debut release was in November 2009, it was a remix of “Invisible Children” by Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic which came out on Mistique Music and got some good support and reactions. Eryo has since signed on as an exclusive Mistique Music artist for 2010 and with many projects in the pipeline it certainly promises to be a big year for him.

Eryo’s original is a super smooth progressive production with a pumping bassline, nice soft pads, atmospheric washes and cool catchy melodic hooks. The breakdown is complimented with a nice breakbeat section that i’m sure most dancefloors will appreciate. A very positive vibe on this production as you would expect from Eryo. You might say the big guns have been called upon to remix this gem from Eryo, Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic, Domased Electronica and Atrium Sun all contribute stellar mixes to the package. The Domased Electronica mix is really the standout here with a beefed up bottom end and a very cool vocal pad, definitely epic, full of warmth and atmosphere. Michael, Levan and Stiven Rivic do a fine job as well creating an amazing progressive house – trance hybrid like only they can do! Big release for Mistique!

Domased Electronica remixed Michael Burns – We Will Fade

MIST056Michael Burns – We Will Fade (incl. Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic, Domased Electronica, Ilya Malyuev, Styller, XSector, Fretwell, Oleg Zubkov) [MIST056]

Release Date: June 5th, 2010
Breaks / Progressive

 Original Mix:
A Mistique release just wouldn’t right without a breaks track included in the package. And here the original sets the pace for the rest of the E.P. Undoubtedly, the male vocals will divide opinions, but scratch below the surface and there’s a haunting sounding bassline running throughout the track and some interesting swirly harmonic work.

Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic Remix:
The bosses are on top form once again for their remix. Pretty much driven by a hypnotising bassline, this has lots of cool, deep sound effects along with some trademark, warm M&L and SR melodies!

Domased Electronica Remix:
In true Domased Electronica style, this is dark! A familiar sinister sounding bassline works well with the vocals to create a really simple remix that I think could be perfect for a sunset moment. Some nice breaks action in the middle too!

Ilya Malyuev Softtech Remix:
Another remix that’s driven by an awesome bassline. Ilya’s remix builds and builds and builds before a break filled with the vocals cools the track down. It then proceeds to build up again with a smashing breakdown that will have you hitting the rewind button again and again!

Styller Remix & Dub:
Styller’s remix is as deep and dark as all the rest. With a lush piano laden break, it builds into a massive peak time prog trancer. Also some nice trickery on the vocals on this remix. It’s pretty hard to describe what Styller has done with the vocals, I guess it’s one of those where you have to listen to find out! Styller also offers a dub mix too for those who aren’t being won over by the vocals

XSector Remix:
XSector are a production team from Tblisi, Georgia. Here they offer a more trancey feel to the track, without losing any of the deep, dark layers of the original.

Fretwell Remix:
Breakbeats through and through here from Fretwell. Creating an atmosphere to make you feel like you’re flying above the stars, like the vocals state. Breathtaking harmonies and a nice swirly high pitched melody in the break.

Oleg Zubkov Remix:
Rounding off this E.P. is Oleg Zubkov and he offers up more breaks action. He uses lots effects on the beats to make the remix quite interesting and uses a really cool bassline to add chunkiness to the whole track.

Review of Michael Burns – We Will Fade EP

Michael Burns has been producing quality electronic music since 2002. A self taught pianist and guitarist, Michael’s introduction to music began by scoring compositions for his local theatre group.

Over the years Michael has produced under various alias’ such as: Blue Haze, Panaptic, Cardboard and Gazor. His productions have been featured on some of the most high profile CD mix compilations including: Hernan Cattaneo’s Renaissance Masters Series 2, Anthony Pappa’s Balance 006 and Nick Warren’s Lima Global Underground. ‘We Will Fade’ is a huge package from Mistique with a large selection of remixes to choose from. The original mix is a classy progressive breaks track with all the Michael Burns production haalmarks that we have all come to love over the years. Warm pads, classy thought provoking melodies and an other-worldly atmosphere all combine to make this another first rate Michael Burns production. Michael, Levan and Stiven Rivic deliver a sublime deep trance interpretation in which the vocal sits perfectly over swirling melodies and atmospherics. Their mix never gets too over the top and has just the right amount of energy to make it a very classy production. Another great deep trance version is turned in by Mistique regular Domased Electronica, his mix eventually leads to a breakbeat section where the vocal works perfectly over some scattered beats before eventually rumbling back into a great deep trance groove. 2 progressive trance reworks are supplied by Slovakia’s up and coming Styller who is definitely one to watch for the remaider of this year. Lastly a prog breaks favorite from years back ‘Fretwell’ also provides a more dancefloor friendly breaks interpretation as well on an already strong package.
